In this episode, I speak with Jake Wegmann, an Assistant Professor in the Community and Regional Planning program at the University of Texas at Austin. We discuss why we need to prioritize building family friendly housing in central cities like Austin and his latest study on gentrification, Uprooted: Residential Displacement in Austin’s Gentrifying Neighborhoods, and What Can Be Done About It.

“Take four single professionals versus most people with children… If we’re under-producing housing in general, then anywhere where those two population groups are in competition for housing it’s the people without kids who are gonna win. And the only way to get out ahead of that is just to build more.”
